Behind the Panthéon on the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, this church is celebrated for its extraordinary rood screen, the last surviving example in Paris, a lacy stone bridge spanning the nave. The building mixes Gothic structure with Renaissance detail and shelters the shrine of Sainte Geneviève, patron saint of the city. The writers Pascal and Racine are buried within, and richly coloured stained glass and a carved organ case enrich the interior. Its distinctive facade and spiralling staircases have long drawn admirers.
