This riverside path follows Edinburgh's main watercourse for around twenty kilometres, from the Pentland Hills down through the city to the harbour at Leith. Along the way it passes former mills, weirs, galleries and the picturesque houses of Dean Village, offering a green corridor away from traffic. Kingfishers, herons and otters can sometimes be seen along the banks. Sculptor Antony Gormley installed a series of cast-iron figures standing in the river as part of a public art project, adding surprise to the walk.
