Beneath Ibiza's waves spread meadows of Posidonia seagrass, a Mediterranean endemic that keeps the island's waters famously clear and nurtures rich marine life — reason enough for a Mixed UNESCO inscription in 1999. On land, history runs deep: the Phoenician settlement at Sa Caleta, the vast Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins, and the Renaissance walls of Dalt Vila, a fortification whose design echoed through Spanish colonial cities of the New World.
