Garajonay National Park

Cloud mist drifts through the laurel forest of Garajonay, cloaking some 70 percent of this national park on the heights of La Gomera in the Canaries. Forests like this — laurisilva fed by springs and countless streams — once spread across much of southern Europe in the Tertiary era; climate shifts erased them from the mainland, leaving these islands as a living remnant. UNESCO granted the park World Heritage status in 1986.
