Point Arena Lighthouse on the Mendocino County coast stands 115 feet tall and is the tallest lighthouse on the US Pacific Coast, rebuilt in 1908 after the 1906 earthquake destroyed its predecessor. The light station occupies a narrow promontory that juts into the Pacific, framing panoramic views of the open ocean and the rugged California coast to north and south. Gray whales are commonly observed from the point during their winter and spring migrations.
