Kings Canyon National Park in the southern Sierra Nevada contains one of the deepest canyons in North America, carved by the South Fork Kings River to a depth of over 8,200 feet. The canyon walls and the backcountry wilderness areas of the High Sierra are accessible via Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, which follows the river through constricted granite gorges to Road's End. General Grant Grove, a shared feature with adjacent Sequoia National Park, contains a dense concentration of giant sequoias.
