A forested mountain range in northwestern Fujian that shelters the Nine-Bend Stream, a slow waterway bordered by red sandstone pinnacles along which traditional bamboo rafts are poled by ferryman guides. The area is also the origin of rock-grown oolong teas and contains boat-coffin archaeological sites lodged in cliff crevices by an ancient indigenous culture. UNESCO recognition covers both the natural landscape and its exceptional biodiversity.
