Lake Victoria is the world's largest tropical lake and Africa's largest lake by area, shared between Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. The Ugandan northern shore and the Ssese Islands archipelago offer the most developed visitor infrastructure — particularly the 84-island chain accessible by ferry from Entebbe, where palm-fringed beaches, forest interior walks, and traditional fishing communities provide a range of experiences. The lake's ecological history is a landmark case study in freshwater conservation, shaped by the introduction of the Nile perch in the 1950s.
