A naturally eroded sandstone monolith near Al-Ula whose form closely resembles the head and trunk of an elephant, Elephant Rock stands approximately 52 metres tall and is considered one of the most visually striking geological features in northwestern Arabia. The surrounding plain of ochre sand and scattered boulders amplifies the sculptural effect of the formation. The site is best photographed around sunrise, when low-angle light rakes across the textured rock surface and casts long shadows across the desert floor.
