A 30-kilometre canyon where the Ardèche river has cut through limestone plateaus to form a gorge reaching 300 metres in depth, containing the natural arch of Pont d'Arc at its entrance. The reserved zone along the river is accessible only by canoe or on foot, making it one of the few major French river gorges without a road at the canyon floor. The cliffs above support vulture colonies reintroduced to the Ardèche in the 1990s.
