The stretch of Calvados coastline between Utah Beach and Sword Beach where Allied forces landed on 6 June 1944, transforming the outcome of the Second World War. The American Military Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, with its 9,387 white marble crosses above Omaha Beach, is the most visited site. Preserved German fortifications at Longues-sur-Mer and the Mémorial de Caen provide extensive historical context for the landings.
