The Viking Triangle is the historic core of Waterford, Ireland's oldest city, founded by Norse settlers in the 10th century. The compact quarter is bounded by traces of the medieval walls and centred on Reginald's Tower, a squat circular fortification that has guarded the quay for over eight hundred years. Within a short walk lie museums of the Viking, medieval and Georgian eras, a Christ Church cathedral and remnants of old town defences. The district compresses more than a thousand years of urban history into a few streets.
