Regensburg Cathedral is the foremost Gothic church in Bavaria, begun around 1275 and dominating the medieval old town along the Danube with its openwork twin spires, completed only in the nineteenth century. The interior holds fine medieval stained glass and carved figures, including a smiling angel that has become an emblem of the cathedral. It is home to a renowned boys' choir with roots reaching back a thousand years. A UNESCO-listed monument, the cathedral anchors one of the best-preserved historic centres in Germany.
