Mananara Nord protects a swathe of lowland rainforest and coastal islands along Madagascar's northeast, forming part of a wider biosphere reserve. The park shelters rare wildlife including the aye-aye, a nocturnal lemur with an eerie elongated finger, alongside chameleons and endemic birds. Its marine section encompasses coral reefs and small islets where turtles nest. Remote and lightly visited, it rewards adventurous travellers with a genuine sense of Madagascar's biological richness, reached by boat and forest trails.
