Built on the Jhelum River, Mangla is among the largest dams in Pakistan and creates an expansive reservoir set against the low hills of the region. Completed in the late 1960s, it provides irrigation storage and hydroelectric power while the surrounding lake supports boating and fishing. Nearby Mangla Fort overlooks the water from a ridge, adding a historic dimension to the setting. The combination of a huge reservoir, green shoreline and hilltop fort makes the area a popular weekend destination for visitors from surrounding cities.
