A serene mountain temple in the northwestern hills, founded in the eleventh century and set against a wooded slope fed by a spring. Its halls ascend a gentle grade linked by streams and pools, and the compound is especially celebrated for its ancient flowering trees, including a magnolia said to be centuries old that draws crowds each spring. Old gingkos and cypresses shade the courtyards, and a teahouse has long made it a place for relaxed retreat, distinct from the busier religious sites nearer the center.
