A temple in the western hills renowned for its ordination platform, a large tiered stone altar where monks were formally received into the Buddhist order. Founded more than a thousand years ago and rebuilt in later dynasties, it occupies a scenic hillside not far from another ancient monastery. The temple is also celebrated for its ancient, fantastically shaped pines, some given poetic names and reckoned centuries old. Terraced courtyards and pagodas spread across the slope amid the twisted trees, a distinctive site.
