A Dominican friary on the shore of Lough Derg, established in the early fifteenth century on the site of an earlier Cistercian chapel. The roofless church, with its fine east window and cloister arcade, sits within the demesne beside the great Jacobean castle of the same town. Elaborate window tracery and carved niches survive despite the building's suppression. Close to the wooded shores of the lough and the Shannon navigation, the friary is a quiet counterpoint to the imposing castle nearby.
