This ancient bridge across the Tormes river offers the classic postcard view of Salamanca, its arches leading the eye toward the twin cathedrals rising on the far bank. The lower, older half dates from Roman times, part of the network of imperial roads, while the upper portion was rebuilt after a flood in the seventeenth century. Near its entrance stands a weathered pre-Roman stone bull that features in Spanish literature. A riverside walk along the far bank frames the golden skyline reflected in the water.
