This wooded hill rising above the old town of Nice was once the site of a medieval castle and fortifications, long ago demolished, leaving a landscaped park in their place. Terraced paths, an artificial waterfall, and shaded overlooks make it a favourite escape from the crowded streets below. From its viewpoints, visitors gaze over the terracotta rooftops of the old town, the sweep of the seafront promenade, and the port on the opposite side. A cemetery and scattered ruins hint at the layered history beneath the greenery.
